Finally, it’s happening. The spy member of our homes is finally getting scarily smarter. If you’re someone who fears that Alexa is secretly listening to our conversation and sending it to the Amazon servers, this news will raise your anxiety through the roof.

On February 25, during a public event in New York, Amazon announced the advanced version of Alexa, and honestly, it’s mind-blowing. I’ve been forever wanting a smarter version of Alexa which is beyond pre-programmed responses.

I got the first Echo Dot back in 2019 and over the years, it has taken over almost every room of my home and office, not because it’s useful in every way, but only to act as a hub to control the other smart home devices and a smart speaker for audio output.

Let’s be honest, the current version of Alexa sucks. All of its responses are repetitive and based on web search results. The machine-learning part is just for the namesake as it struggles to understand the most basic commands. It’s even worse when it pretends as if it didn’t hear me at all.

And don’t even get me started on follow-up questions. Although Alexa has a follow-up mode, it’s nothing but a bad joke…
