Recently, I had this unnatural urge to take a trip down memory lane and revisit the first iOS version. So, I landed on YouTube and saw a couple of videos on it. And then it struck me, why should I be the only one to suffer from this severe nostalgia? How about I make my readers feel the same — terribly old?

As evident from the current build number of the latest iOS version, it has been 17 years since the release of the first iPhone system (yeah, 17 and not 18, because it debuted in 2007).

Back then, iOS was referred to as ‘iPhoneOS’ since there were no iPads at the time that shared the same firmware. However, I’ll be referencing it as ‘iOS 1’ to make things less confusing.

In this story, I’ll be comparing some of the key features that also existed on the first iOS. To make it fair, I’ll be avoiding discussing features like Siri, AirDrop, and others that came to the later versions of IOS as the hardware advanced. Similarly, I’ll be also avoiding the Camera aspect, since we all know how that has evolved over the years.

Here’s how far we have come since the first iOS:
