Here’s Why Jailbreaking Is Dead on iPhone
RIP Jailbreak, 2007–2022!
I remember when I, and many others, were not as excited about the new major release of an iOS version as we did not want to lose the Jailbreak on our iPhones by updating to the latest firmware. Moreover, the features we had on our jailbroken iPhones were significantly greater than the ones offered by Apple with the newer releases.
Since the first iPhone hit the market, power users have sought methods to fully unlock Apple’s iOS operating system. Back in 2007, the initial iOS Jailbreak enabled users to set custom ringtones, install third-party games, and personalize the home screen. Over time, though, Apple has incorporated many features that were once exclusive to jailbreaks directly into iOS.
For instance:
- Night Shift
- Dark Mode
- Icon customisation
- Dynamic wallpapers
- Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets
- Separate pages in Control Centre
- Locking apps
- Tap on Touch ID for shortcuts
The list can go on and on as there are over a hundred such examples.
Anyway, the question remains, is Jailbreak still a thing? Or is it gone forever?
