The awful iPhone’s ancestor you didn’t know about
Apple, in 2007, created history by revolutionising the smartphone industry. The announcement of the first iPhone took the tech world by storm. Not only, it was unique in terms of designs from the existing smartphones at the time, but also featured a brand new operating system that was exclusive to the iPhones.
It was a huge game changer with its fresh approach to using a smartphone. While Android and Blackberry phones relied on a bunch of keys at the bottom, the iPhone’s appeal, with just a single home button, made it look futuristic.
Five months after its announcement, on the night before its launch, thousands of people queued outside the stores to get their hands on the first-ever smartphone by Apple. But little did they know that it wasn’t really Apple’s first smartphone, but only the first iPhone.
In fact, the first smartphone by Apple was neither smart nor Apple. It was indeed a Motorola, and this is its story.
