I watched the WWDC event with utmost excitement with a friend (currently an iPhone user, but a former long-time Android user). He ensured his best to ruin the event for me by constantly pointing out that his Android phone had the upcoming iOS 18 features for ages. But it wasn’t his fault.

Android users have been forever boasting about how their operating system had customisation options for an eternity. The history is evident.

  • 2014: iOS 8 enabled third-party keyboards. Android users ridiculed it.
  • 2015: iOS 9 introduced Night Shift and Low Power Mode. Android users ridiculed it.
  • 2016: iOS 10 allowed deleting native apps. Android users ridiculed it.
  • 2018: iOS 12 added a new Files app. Android users ridiculed it.
  • 2020: iOS 14 got Home Screen widgets and call banners. Android users ridiculed it.
  • 2022: iOS 16 allowed Lock Screen customisation. Android users ridiculed it.

Now, with the announcement of iOS 18, Android users are back with guns blazing and rights bragging. They have once again accused Apple of ‘stealing’ some of the core Android features that have existed since its inception, and some that have been…
